Home Collections Mangalsutra

From under four grams to a hundred and sixty.

A mangalsutra gets worn every day for decades, so weight matters more here than on anything else in the shop. We keep the range wide on purpose — light enough for an office shift, heavy enough for a wedding — all 22K 916, all HUID stamped.

Three weights, one idea

Pick by how often you will wear it.

Daily
Under 4 grams. Light enough that you forget it is on. Goes to the office and to a function without looking wrong at either.
Occasion
Around 50 grams. We took a design that normally sits at 70–80 grams and rebuilt it at 50 with the same broad face — same grandeur, smaller bill.
Bridal
Up to 160 grams. Heavy meenakari and intricate karigari, made for a Maharashtrian bride and meant to be handed down.

Why weight is the whole conversation

Two mangalsutras can look identical across a room and differ by thirty grams — which is a very large difference in money. The look comes from the width and the face of the pendant, not the mass behind it. So when you tell us a budget, we will show you the widest design that fits it, rather than a smaller version of something dearer.

Black beads are strung fresh. If a thread wears out years from now, bring it in — restringing is routine work.

Questions people actually ask

What is the lightest mangalsutra you have?

Under 4 grams in 22K gold, made for daily wear. It is one of the pieces we are asked for most often, so there is usually a choice of designs in the case.

Can you make a heavy design at a lower weight?

That is a large part of what we do. A pattern that normally needs 70–80 grams we have rebuilt at 50 grams with the same broad look, by changing where the gold sits rather than shrinking the design.

Can you restring an old mangalsutra?

Yes. Bring it in — restringing black beads is routine work, including on pieces that were not bought from us.

Is a mangalsutra hallmarked too?

Yes. Every gold piece we sell is 916 hallmarked and carries its own six-digit HUID number.
